Thomas Humphrey has patented his 3Millennium2 design of the raised fingerboard, which caused much controversy among the lutherie community, especially regarding the originality of such a design. However, musicians were not interested in such historical minutia and so over time this design feature has come to be accepted by some well known and talented performers such as Sharon Isbin and the Assads. Today, there are numerous makers making theme and variation interpretations of the raised fingerboard, but this instrument represents an opportunity to own an original. Despite the 660 mm scale, this instrument is very easy to play and has the typical Humphrey volume and projection. The top is made of Sitka spruce and has a very nice balance between bass and treble. And as Sharon Isbin has so successfully demonstrated, these instruments also amplify and record very well. The back of this instrument is in 3 pieces which may not be obvious from the photos. Tom currently has a long waiting list, so this is a great chance to own a Millennium model without the agonizing wait. Minor playing and handling wear., visible wear to the back of the neck.
